edwards drive-in

the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie, directed by luis bunuel is like watching a surrealist painting come to life in a way. it's a comedy, but it never points that out. the characters all take themselves very seriously and the second half of the movie seems to end and start again three or four times. the movie goes after the hypocracy of the upper class and elitism that is taken for granted as a right. there's a recurring scene that reminded me of "waiting for godot" and another character who tells stories that reminded me of the obsession commercials from the 1980's. this is my favorite film that I've discovered in a long time. it doesn't seem like much for a while and by the end of the movie you find yourself trying to figure out how he put it together. it feels like he made exactly the film he set out to make and yet I'm not sure I completely understand what the movie is about. definitely worth seeing.
